UAlbany at a glance

Called UAlbany for short, University at Albany is a large public university founded in 1844; one of the first State Universities of New York to be established in the SUNY system. The school has over three campuses; one at the Uptown Campus in Albany, the downtown campus which is also in Albany and the East campus in the city of Rensselaer-- these three campuses house over 17,300 students in total.
The University utilizes a semester based academic system and offers over 50 fields of study for its undergraduate students.
In addition to an honors college which offers a more rigorous curriculum to a select group of students, the school has 9 colleges which specialize in various fields of study, including Criminal Justice and Business.

Harvey Milk(class of 1951) was the first openly gay American politician to be elected to public office as a San Francisco Board Supervisor.

U.S senators Charles E. Schumer and Kristen Gilibrand have announced to give the school a grant of over 4 million in federal funds to pursue the development of a U.S- Taiwan consortium which will advance research in early warning systems to better predict the path of major storms.
