College Spotlight: Saint Bonaventure University

Located in St. Bonaventure, New York, St. Bonaventure University (Bonas) is a small, private university located 72 miles south of Buffalo, NY. The college's motto is "Becoming Extraordinary" and that is truly what the school is all about; giving each student the chance to become extraordinary. There are a little over 1,700 undergraduate students at SBU, additionally there are almost 400 students attending Bonaventure in order to get their Master's degree. There is an 11:1 student to faculty ratio, with an 84% retention rate for freshmen.

Academically, Bonas is known for its amazing Business, Education, and Journalism & Mass Communications (JMC) programs; about a quarter of the students are enrolled in some type of business major, while another quarter of students are enrolled in either an education or JMC program. Bonas offers students an opportunity to take internships all across the country, take a term abroad, and really anything in between.

 If you are a Bonnie, the place to be is the Riley Center. Basketball is one of the major sports at Bonas, and they love it. The 2012, Atlantic 10 champions, Bonas has had a pretty good season so far: 9-3 in the regular season as well as 1-0 in Atlantic 10 games thus far. Jalen Adams, a freshman guard, just scored his career high 30 point per game, and was named the Atlantic 10 player of the week. Students rock the Riley every game night, practically on the floor cheering on their classmates. Basketball is not the only sport at Bonaventure, however. If interested, students can get involved in Rugby, Swimming, Hockey, Baseball, Lacrosse, and many many more sports.

By it's students, Bonaventure is known as a home away from home. They take the Bona Bubble seriously and the alumni love their alma matter so much. On a popular website, an alumni had this to say about Bonas:
"Bonas is the best place ever. You will make ever-lasting friends and become part of a family known as the "Bona Bubble". There are so many opportunities to get involved on campus and the social life is great."
