1:18 Stony Brook University





Stony Brook University is located on the North shore of Long Island in Southeastern New York. Founded in 1957, the University is one of the 66 colleges in the SUNY complex and the only one involved in a research collaboration with a national lab. Sprawled across an impressive 1,454 acres of land, the Suburban campus is only some 60 miles away from New York City and houses a total undergraduate population of 16,480.
Stony Brook celebrates and encourages a culture of intellectual excellence and cutting edge innovation among its students and faculty. It prides itself on a long standing history of research and groundbreaking discoveries among which are discovery of the cause of Lyme disease and the creation of the smallest electronic switch. There are several opportunities for students to get involved in faculty-mentored research during their time at the university. The school is one of only ten research universities nationwide to receive a Recognition Award for the Integration of Research and Education (RAIRE) from the National Science Foundation (NSF). Programs and facilities such as the Undergraduate Research & Creative Activities (URECA),Young Investigators Review, and the Center of Excellence in Wireless Information Technology (CEWIT) .

Campus Life Time
In addition to fostering a thriving academic community, Stony Brook is home to a flourishing social scene. Academic activity pauses every Wednesday from 1 p.m to 2:30 p.m for Campus Life Time; during this time students can participate in a myriad of activities ranging from attending A capella performances to sampling free food among other things.

Stony Brook is the only SUNY university that offers a journalism program and a university medical center.
