6:12 State Scholarship Resources

Some states and organizations will offer scholarships to students from their state and/or to students who are staying in-state for college. Click on this link and see below for some scholarships offered through your state!

New York:

First New York Federal Credit Union: http://www.firstnewyork.org/
Award amount: $1,000
Deadline: March of Senior Year
First New York FCU awards three scholarships to its members who are graduating from high school and are planning to attend a two or four year college. Students must be in good standing with First New York and active volunteers in their community.


Anna Hudson Erbacher Scholarship: http://www.schenectadyfoundation.org/
Award amount: $2,500 a year for four years
Deadline: Application available in March; winners announced in May
This scholarship is in the memory of Anna Hudson Erbacher, a former teacher in the Schenectady school system. There are generally two winners of this scholarship, and they are chosen based on their academic performance, financial need, character and extracurricular activities.


Young Leaders Scholarship Fund: http://www.schenectadyfoundation.org/
Award amount: $5,000 or $10,000
Deadline:
Recipients must be actively involved in and demonstrate leadership in their school or community and have future plans for community involvement. The intention is to better the community. Last year seven scholarships were awarded (four $5,000 and three $10,000)


New Hampshire:

Award Amount: $2,500 (any postsecondary institution) - $5, 000 (Whittemore School at UNH)
Deadline: April 15, 2015
Dunkin’ Donuts franchisees are committed to a strong local community. An important part of building our community is helping students gain a quality education. As a part of a Community Partnership program, Dunkin’ Donuts Franchisees will award scholarships to qualified high school seniors.

This is not a scholarship but it is a website that allows you to view and apply to scholarships for New Hampshire students and residents You just need to create an account and search the website’s archives.  


Massachusetts:


John and Abigail Adams Scholarship: http://www.massresources.org/adams-scholarship.html
Award Amount: Tuition waiver (varies by State school)
Deadline: must fill out FAFSA by Feb 15
The John and Abigail Adams Scholarship is a merit-based scholarship program that gives tuition waivers to Massachusetts students who attend public colleges or universities within the state. Merit is based on student scores on the 10th grade Massachusetts Comprehensive Assessment System (MCAS) test.

Award Amount: up to $4000 per year

TEACH Grants are federal grants for college students who agree to teach full time in a high-need field for four years after graduation, in a school that serves low-income students. TEACH Grants are worth up to $4000 per year. Massachusetts also offers grants and scholarships for college students studying to become teachers.

The Massachusetts High Demand Scholarship Program was created by the Massachusetts Legislature to support economic growth and development. The purpose is to encourage degree completion in high demand disciplines that will help address the workforce needs of the Commonwealth by providing scholarship assistance to support the educational costs of students pursuing such programs of study. The scholarship program supports training and degree completion in disciplines that are deemed to be critical shortage areas, as identified by the Executive Office of Labor and Workforce Development.

The Christian A. Herter Memorial Scholarship Program is a state-supported program whose mission includes providing educational opportunities to Commonwealth students who demonstrate academic promise and desire to attend post-secondary institutions. The Christian A. Herter Memorial Scholarship Program was established in 1972 by the Massachusetts State Legislature as an early identification program to recruit students in the 10th and 11th grades whose socio-economic backgrounds and environmental conditions may inhibit their ability to persevere and attain educational goals.

The Early Childhood Educators Scholarship Program was funded as a pilot initiative by the Legislature for the purpose of increasing the quality and availability of teachers and care providers to work with young children and youth in inclusive settings including infant/toddler, preschool and school age programs. The scholarship is designed to provide financial assistance for currently employed early childhood and out of school time educators and providers who enroll in an associate's or bachelor's degree program in Early Childhood Education or related programs.
